Wolfgang Lutz receives "Wissenschaftspreis" by the Austrian Research Association (ÖFG)

The founding of a new Institute of Demography at the University of Vienna in 2019 was an important step towards establishing this research and teaching in Austria. Science Award of the Austrian Research Foundation to Wolfgang Lutz
The Science Prize of the Austrian Research Foundation (ÖFG) will be awarded to Univ.-Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Lutz in 2023.


Vienna (OTS) - Due to his outstanding scientific achievements as well as due to the science-political relevance and high topicality of his research focus, Univ.-Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Lutz will receive the Science Award of the Austrian Research Foundation.

Wolfgang Lutz is an internationally recognized social scientist and demographer. His award-winning research is based on analyses of global population development. Central aspects of his work form the investigation of the connection or interaction of demographic changes and education, society, economy and environment.

"Wolfgang Lutz enjoys the highest reputation worldwide as a scientist, demographer and social statistician. At the same time, he stands internationally as an example for the successful contribution of scientific expertise to public discourses on several of the burning challenges of our time" - says the chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board Heinrich Schmidinger.

The Austrian Research Foundation's Science Award is intended to make Austrian science visible by recognizing and honoring both an individual's exceptional achievement and an outstanding scientific work.

The Science Prize will be awarded in 2023 for the sixteenth time since its inception. The decision on the award of this prize is made by the Scientific Advisory Board of the ÖFG, which is composed of recognized representatives of the various scientific disciplines, and is confirmed by the Presidium.

Previous laureates are among others: 2000 Peter L. Berger (Boston; sociology), 2002 Hans Tuppy (Vienna; biochemistry), 2006 Helmut Rauch (Vienna; experimental physics), 2012 Walter Mischel (New York; psychology), 2014 Ingeborg Hochmair-Desoyer (Innsbruck, electrical engineering) and most recently 2020 Jan Assmann (Konstanz, Egyptology) and Fritz Paschke (Vienna, electrical engineering).

The ceremonial awarding of the ÖFG Science Prize to Wolfgang Lutz will take place in November 2023!
